Hey to those people who still pay attention to me!
Been awhile. Just thought I'd fill you all on what I've been doing since I last uploaded anything. Anyways, San Diego Comic-Con International 2017 was in late July. I was in attendance of course and as I do every year I was showing work in the art show.
Anyway, the show traditionally held in the convention center, but due to over crowding it had to be moved to one of the hotels, the Manchester Grand Hyatt. That meant less traffic and potential bidders since it was at the heart of Comic-Con, so the show was opened to the public as a whole to make up for that. Despite 20% drop in art show attendees, this year was my most lucrative year yet. I mainly sold canvas prints of my paintings. I was scared that people wouldn't buy them and preferred my originals, but I was dead wrong. Of the 17 canvas prints I had, 11 sold. Plus three smaller paintings and a few paper prints. So I should be getting around $600 for this show.
The best part was how people browsing and people on staff wanted to talk to me about my work. A senior member of the staff who had been helping people process their purchasing my work let me in on the fact that everyone who bought a piece just had to talk about how pleased they were buying my work. He said he could actually imagine me designing covers for books and the like and told me I should look into Jim Lee, who apprently got his start at the SDCC Art Show.
Apparently, the guy who purchased my Lucina print, we had struck up a conversation when he saw me stocking my business cards and asked if I was the artist, and told me that several people who liked my work mentioned how cool it would have been if I painted Anime characters. Strangely enough, he said more than once that girls who were looking at my panels would of liked to see me try painting Sailormoon.
Now enough of the positive, let's get to the negative. With the convention over, the reason why I have not painted anything up to now is several factors. First off, I've been sick. Fevers and me having to deal with anti-biotics. Side effects are this persistent couch that sticking around despite me finishing them last week and the fact I'm allergic to sun light. Hopefully those will wear off eventually. Second, the summer heat in SD has been brutal. So lethargy has taken hold of me and my motivation is hardly there. Which makes me think of so much wasted time I could be using. Third and last, my mind is a complete mess right now. I have so many ideas in my head, but I'm trying to figure out how to move them forward and other times I feel like I don't have enough ideas I can really get excited about.
So there you have it. I'm not dead, just useless for the time being. So... still dead.
